Premium Floors for Superior Durability:
The flooring in our Wood Lofted Barns is designed with durability and strength in mind. It starts with a solid foundation of 4”x6” pressure-treated notched skids, providing a sturdy base for the entire structure. The skids are notched 1 ½ inches to cradle the pressure-treated 2”x6” floor joists, which are securely toenailed into the skids using nails.
To ensure superior strength and stability, the floor joists are spaced on 16” centers, offering ample support for heavy items and preventing any concerns about collapsing or buckling. The floor frame is decked with 3/4” tongue and groove plywood, which is thicker and stronger than 5/8” or thinner plywood commonly used in other sheds. The tongue and groove design creates a tight seal between the plywood sheets, eliminating sagging seams and potential entry points for pests.
Our flooring system provides a high load rating, allowing you to confidently store a wide range of items without worrying about structural integrity. The use of pressure-treated wood throughout the floor construction ensures enhanced protection against moisture, rot, and decay, guaranteeing years of worry-free use.
For added convenience and protection, we offer the option to apply a floor enamel coating to the entire floor. This two-step process involves applying an Extreme Block primer followed by the enamel coating, creating a spill-proof, stain-proof finish. This coating ensures that the plywood is sealed and protected from any spills that may occur in the future, making cleanup quick and easy.
With our Wood Lofted Barns, you can have peace of mind knowing that the flooring is built to last and withstand heavy use. It provides a solid and reliable foundation for all your storage needs, ensuring your belongings are safe and secure.
Craftsmanship and Quality:
The framing of the Wood Lofted Barn is designed to be strong, stable, and durable. It begins with solid 4”x6” pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) skids, providing a sturdy foundation. The floor joists, made of 2”x6” pressure-treated SYP, are placed on 16” centers, ensuring optimal load-bearing capacity. The floor is decked with 3/4” tongue and groove (T&G) plywood, offering strength and a tight seal.
For the walls, Spruce 2”x4” studs are used, spaced on 24” centers and doubled every 4 feet, providing a strong frame and solid seal for the exterior siding. The walls are topped with a double 2”x8” top plate, adding stability and a visually pleasing overhang.
Roof rafters are constructed with Spruce 2”x4”s on 24” centers, aligned with the wall studs for strong roof support. The Gambrel roof design features a steeper lower pitch (36” on 12”) and a shallower upper pitch (4” on 12”), maximizing loft storage space without increasing the building’s footprint.
Overall, the Wood Lofted Barn’s framing is built with meticulous Mennonite craftsmanship, using high-quality materials. It provides a strong and reliable structure that can withstand heavy loads, meet local roof load and wind zone requirements, and endure the test of time.
Exceptional Siding Options:
The wooden Lofted Barns offer two options for siding: 5/8-inch pressure treated T1-11 Rough Sawn plywood siding and 7/16-inch LP Smart Siding.
The 5/8-inch T1-11 siding features a rough sawn plywood texture with V-grooves spaced on 4-inch centers. It is stained with a cedar tone sealer and trimmed with pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine, giving it a rustic appearance. This siding provides a thicker and stronger option compared to thinner alternatives, ensuring durability and longevity. The defined V-grooves add visual interest to the shed’s exterior while offering a reliable and attractive siding solution.
On the other hand, the 7/16-inch LP Smart Siding is a modern and low-maintenance choice. It comes pre-primed and can be painted in your choice of color. The LP Smart Siding offers excellent longevity with little maintenance requirements, making it an ideal option for those seeking a more contemporary look. It is backed by an industry-leading warranty, including a 5-year 100% labor and material replacement warranty and a 50-year prorated limited warranty on the substrate. With the LP Smart Siding, you have the flexibility to choose from a range of colors or even provide a specific Sherwin Williams paint code for a unique color combination.
Both siding options in the wooden Lofted Barns provide durability and visual appeal. Whether you prefer the rustic charm of the T1-11 siding or the modern aesthetics of the LP Smart Siding, you can select the option that best suits your style and preferences for your customized wood Lofted Barn.
Durable Roofing Options:
The roofing in our Wood Lofted Barns is designed to provide durability, protection, and aesthetic appeal. We offer two options: 29-gauge painted steel roofing and 3-tab shingles.
For the steel roofing, we use 29-gauge metal panels with a 5 Rib pattern. These panels are available in 18 baked enamel colors, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your preferences. Additionally, we offer the option of Galvalume, which is a metallic finish that provides excellent rust resistance.
Our steel roofing is installed vertically down the pitch of the roof, ensuring efficient water and debris drainage. This installation method follows the design specifications of the metal roofing and promotes its longevity. We also trim the roofline on all sides and transitions to provide a polished and attractive appearance.
If you prefer shingles, we offer 3-tab shingles as an alternative. These shingles come in four stock colors, but you can also choose to upgrade to 30-year architectural shingles with a wide range of color options. Shingles provide a traditional and classic look to your Wood Lofted Barn.
Regardless of the roofing material you choose, we ensure that the roof frame is decked with 7/16 OSB sheathing, which adds strength to the entire structure. We also install a screen at the ridge to ensure proper ventilation while keeping out debris and pests.
Overall, our Wood Lofted Barns offer roofing options that are built to last, with a focus on functionality, durability, and visual appeal. Whether you prefer the sleek and modern look of steel roofing or the timeless charm of shingles, our roofing options provide the finishing touch to your customized shed.
